Bangers, Bridges and Blackouts
It's 3rd or 4th kit season for League One, with some bangers from League Two. Talking AV Alta, Forward Madison, Westchester SC, Portland Bangers and the SF Glens

Each week we will highlight and talk about 5 kits from across the USL. Each kit is rated 1-5 based on four categories:

  • Design & Aesthetics
  • Authenticity & Tradition
  • Visual Details & Execution
  • Innovation & Impact

Without further ado, here are this week's kits:

Forward Madison: The Flock Kit

Forward Madison: The Flock Kit

I’ve been waiting for a flamingo styled kit from Forward Madison. This year’s collaborating with Madison’s Supporter group “The Flock”, finally gave me what I’ve been waiting for.

This kit is beautiful in the facets. The colors match that of a flamingo, the detailing of the feathers, the shading and it’s a flamingo kit! How can you not love a team nicknamed the flamingos have a flamingo themed kit?? Add in the two tone collar that really draws and brings everything together.

This kit is absolutely perfect and everything we look for - colorful, detailed, with ties to local (nickname and with supporter’s group collab) and excellently executed. This kit also helps a local charity to make soccer more accessible for youth in Madison.

Forward Madison FC has released their 2025 supporter-designed kit, Plume & Pride, ahead of their match tonight at Breese Stevens Field against Spokane Velocity SC. For the sixth consecutive season, a match worn kit has been designed by the club’s independent supporters group, The Flock. In collaboration with the group, $5 from every kit sold will be donated to the Flock Soccer Foundation, designed to make soccer more accessible for the youth community in Madison.

The Flock kit joins the 5’s club.

SF Glens: Kits of the Past Kit

SF Glens: Kits of the Past Kit

While the Flock kit gets all the attention from it’s colors and theme, SF Glens have history on their side. Going with a traditional white kit as they have since 1961.

This kit sticks to tradition and then uses some subtle diagonal stripes to add some detailing. The pinstriped cuffs and the two colored collar just frame everything all together. It’s clean, sharp and to the point. It’s a SF Glens kit and you can’t beat a Guinnes sponsorship.

Our 2025 away kit features a crisp white base with bold green trim — a nod to iconic Glens kits of the past. Clean, timeless, and unmistakably Glens, this look blends heritage with modern design, honoring where we’ve been while looking ahead to where we’re going.

Proudly sponsored by Guinness, our 2025 kits celebrate the spirit of Irish heritage and the immigrant community that has shaped our club since 1961.

Westchester SC: Metro Blackout Kit

Westchester SC: Metro Blackout Kit

This kit caused a little bit of fun debate. Westchester SC who plays in Westchester County, New York decided to incorporate New York’s famous skyline into their kit. While I am not the biggest of fans of this choice (show off Westchester County instead of relying on the big city the more suburban area is attached too), I can’t deny I like the overall look.

The two stripes almost look painted on and gives me Boca Juniors vibes. While the skyline is basically a photo put onto the kit, it’s not the entire design (Carolina Ascent I am looking at you) and integrates well into the kit overall. Plus, as a city lover - and someone who needs to get to New York sooner rather than later - I can’t hate too much on one of the best skylines in the world being put onto a kit. You can also see the Westchester W patten throughout the kit that we’ve seen on all of their kits, and I love that this is something they are sticking with.

This feels like an appropriate third kit and Westchester made up their more simple and subtle home/away kits. I love this from Westchester and I want to see more of that painted stripe look going forward.

Portland Bangers: St. John’s Bridge Kit

Portland Bangers: St. John’s Bridge Kit

I don’t know how I feel about the Bangers. For a team that is named the Bangers, only having one really solid well designed kit doesn’t sit well. The other kits released are fine and overall solid but look more like good polos or shirts. This finally feels like a proper kit from Official and Portland.

Our home away from home kit. A deep green foundation meets pink accent sleeves, sublimated with Portland’s iconic St. John’s Bridge, it’s our way of taking Portland with us on the road.

The colors look really sharp together and the mismatched cuffs and collars really make everything pop. Adding in a dotted silhouette of Portland’s St. John’s bridge, you get a local tie and some nice detailing.

I am a big fan of this kit, and want to see more just like this from Portland. Now give me a kit with this logo or the sausage somehow…

AV Alta: Spirit of the Valley Kit

AV Alta: Spirit of the Valley Kit

I think I have found a weakness from us here at KitSZN - tribal patterns. I don’t care who you are, this pattern looks amazing. Here is the offical message from the team about the kit:

The desert carries the stories of many cultures, each shaping the Antelope Valley. From the earliest people to all who have carried those stories forward.
This kit honors our history, blending sacred patterns with earthy tones and bold energy to reflect our fans’ pride and passion. It connects past and present, carrying forward a legacy of resilience, unity, and pride in the place that will always bring us back home

Connecting the past of the area, various cultures onto a kit for Antelope Valley is everything we ask. Add in the great design and look, you can’t blame us for adding this to the 5’s club.

Now I will acknowledge, I have forgotten about AV Alta (and Texoma FC) most of the season…If they continue to produce some top quality kits like they have (same with Texoma), then it will be impossible for me to forget them moving forward. Love this from AV Alta and welcome to the 5’s club.
