KitSZN: Places, People and Papel

Apologies on the delay, someone (Brett) decided to have a birthday this past weekend.

We explore the city of Sarasota, the commute of Westchester, and a local favorite in San Francisco. Then dive into the weeds of the Roots to Roses kit from Rally Madison, and ending with El Paso’s celebration of hispanic culture with their Papel Picado Kit.

San Francisco City FC: It's It Kit

From the outside, this kit looks like just another clean White kit with some interesting accent colors, but a closer look reveals more.

Keeping it local, SF City's 2026 Away kit is designed off of the local Ice Cream shop "It's-It". A local favorite that has called San Francisco home since 1928. They got the name as their delicious combination of savory and sweetness was declared to be "IT!".

To honor the Ice Cream shop, the famous scoop of ice cream between two oatmeal cookies, dipped in a dark chocolate cookie sandwich. SF City's 2026 away kit is an homage to the strawberry flavor.

Utilizing that Strawberry as the base, we have an underlying horizontal pinstripe action with even a few "dripping" down like melting ice cream. The cuffs and collar come in Chocolate - yes please.

This Strawberry base features horizontal pinstripes with random drips, representing a local ice cream shop's favorite flavor.

That's why the back of the kit features amazing cherry details. The sleeves are Dark Chocolate and continue the delicious theme. This kit is a beautiful, subtle nod to one of the world's favorite treats, without melting your face off.

Rally Madison: Roots to Roses Kit

This beautiful kit from Rally Madison is a shout-out to the local bloomage.

The Lavender-Purple base is highlighted by Deep Purple flowers and petals. The flowing pinstripes fill the space perfectly, adding an extra touch of class.

Along with its two-tone collar and sleeve cuffs, this kit is a beautiful "tribute to the grind that happens beneath the surface. We don't just show up; we grow."

Westchester SC: Commuter Kit

Check out our interview with Mason Asper from Westchester SC earlier this year article for more info on this kit.

Inspired by the three MTA lines that run through Westchester County - the Hudson line (green), the Harlem line (blue), and the New Haven Line (red).

These three lines connect 48 municipalities with all routes converging in Mount Vernon.

With a Cream-colored base covered in a repeating white pattern of the three train lines, this non-white kit lets the train lines grab all the attention. Throw in that Blue collar, just sublime.

From rocking the new Commuter Kit in our interview, and from how often Mason said "We want to tell the Story of Westchester". This isn't just another job - this is about giving the county of Westchester their own professional sports team. Not a New York or New Jersey team. A Westchester County team. One that stripes to unify the county.

The very satisfying way the Harlem Line lines up perfectly in the middle, to the Golden Apple patch on the sleeve, and to the very small details underlying the design - you can see the overwhelming joy on Mason's face when talking about this kit. The Devil is in the Details, and this kit did not lose track of any of those. Everything fits, has a purpose and told the story of Westchester County Commuters. Mason wanted a kit that was not only a "lifestyle" choice, but one anyone from local fans, people of Westchester or kit nerds (like ourselves) could pick up. The rest they say, is history.

El Paso Locomotive: Papel Picado Kit

Like traditional Mexican tissue paper used year-round to mark all occasions in bright colors, this Papel Picado kit does just that.

Putting this form of art onto a kit is a celebration of the art, history and culture found in El Paso. The city that has perfectly blended both Mexican and American cultures, this kit is just one aspect of a city that cannot be replicated.

Utilizing a Black base, we get layers of that tissue paper in Blues, Yellows, Pinks, and Oranges that simply pop. Inside the paper designs, we have the Locomotive crest, "LOCOS" in a graffiti styling (a nod to last season's kits), and many many more details representing their city and club.

Welcome to the 5's club and ¡Que comience la fiesta! 🎉🕺
